Good work needs good light, a chair you forget about and a desk with nothing on it you don't use.

Most home offices fail on three things: the chair, the light and the cables. Fix those and the rest is decoration.
The chair you forget
A task chair should disappear beneath you. Prioritise seat height adjustment and a back that supports without pushing.
Desk depth matters more than width
Sixty-five centimetres is the minimum for a monitor at a healthy distance. Width is a luxury; depth is a requirement.
Light from the side
A task lamp placed opposite your writing hand avoids shadows. Overhead light should be indirect.
Finally, hide the cables. A desk with a port and a single power strip clipped underneath will change how the room feels.
